When you find something interesting on the Internet, or you encounter a funny or interesting error, you may want to take a snapshot to show it to your friends. The days when we used to hit the PrintScreen key and paste the image in paint are long gone. With specialized software, we may capture anything on our screens and save it directly as an image, without going through a third party application to create that image. DuckCapture makes this process as easy as possible. It comes with multiple capturing methods and a simple, but very useful editor. The software is lightweight and even novice users can master its functions.

DuckCapture is absolutely free and you can install it on your computer in one or two minutes. The installation file is small and you will have no difficulties during the setup process. You can use it on different Windows versions, as well as Mac OS X platforms.

The application allows you to capture the whole screen, a window or part of it or capture a region, using a rectangle or a custom polygon. These options are represented by large icons, on DuckCapture's interface. Another feature makes it possible to capture an entire web page. If you can not capture a page because you have to scroll, you can select the Scrolling option and click the page once. The processes of capturing the entire screen or a web page are instantaneous. The screenshot will be saved automatically, in a default folder.

After capturing a region or a window, the snapshot will be loaded on DuckCapture's built in editor immediately. Once loaded, you can move and resize the image like a window. If you need to place it on the center of the screen, the program will aid you with guide lines. You may capture new areas of the screen at any time and load it on the same page. You can also add text and various shapes as annotations, select a stroke color and size or fill the snapshot with a solid color. If you fail to cover a certain element while capturing a region of the screen, there is no need to start over. You just need to resize the snapshot.

You can extend the interface to reveal DuckCapture's general settings. They are organized under separate tabs and you can use them to set the application to include the mouse cursor when capturing the screen, launch automatically when Windows starts, select a time interval for scrolling pages and make other behavior related settings. It is also possible to select a default folder, where your screenshots will be saved automatically, a different format or have the software prompt you for a location and format. Hotkeys are configured under the third tab. You need to click check boxes to activate certain capturing functions and select a hotkey.

Pros

The application's functions are very straightforward. Its capturing options are found directly on the interface and you do not have to click too many options to make adjustments to your snapshots. The built in editor is very comfortable and it spares you from creating new screenshots in case you do something wrong.

Cons

There are only three output formats available (JPG, BMP and PNG). DuckCapture makes it easy to capture your screen or part of it. Its simple, yet efficient tools are all you need to create screenshots in a comfortable manner.
